About Chuck Kittrell
Thirty-plus years of college fairs, hotel rooms, and scholarship research.
A little about myself
I started recruiting for Bob Jones University in March 1992. I’m a 1982 business administration graduate, and for more than thirty years I’ve traveled the country talking with high school students about college.
As the years passed I kept meeting graduates carrying enormous student loan debt. Some had $5,000 or $10,000 which is manageable. Others had $40,000, $50,000, $72,000, and some over $100,000.
At one college fair, a young woman brought her sister to my table. As I explained how students can graduate debt-free using The Scholarship File, the older sister quietly interrupted. “I wish I’d had that scholarship file before I went to college,” she said. “When I graduated two years ago, I owed $72,000 in student loans.” She went on to explain that she was back living with her parents because she couldn’t find a job, and together they were struggling to make monthly loan payments of nearly $700. With eight more years of payments ahead of her, the weight of that debt had already begun to shape her future.
I graduated with about $3,000 in loans. I could not imagine having $72,000 in student loan debt!
Why this site exists
So around 2006 I started assembling The Scholarship File for students, parents and guidance counselors. I’ve read many books on paying for college. I’ve talked with hundreds of counselors who shared scholarships their students use. I’ve spent a lot of nights in hotel rooms on the road digging through scholarship sites.
For years I emailed that file to anyone who asked—thousands upon thousands of people. This site exists so many more can get to it without having to find me first.
My promise
I love helping students discover that graduating from college debt free is possible. It truly blesses my heart when someone tells me they did it, because I know the freedom that comes from starting life after college without the burden of student loan debt can open the door to so many exciting possibilities. That’s why everything here is completely free. Take what you need, put it to good use, and please feel free to share it with your friends!
If there’s any way I can help, or you know of a scholarship that belongs in the file, I’d like to hear from you.
God bless,
Chuck Kittrell
